She won her first Junior Grand Slam title at the Australian Open. She began playing tennis at age five and was coached by Levan Nanava. She has been married.
2. EUGENIE BOUCHARD
Known for her mobility and her aggressive but unpredictable style of play, she reached the semifinals of the 2014 Australian Open. Her parents are Mike and Julie Bouchard, and she has a fraternal twin named Beatrice. She has two younger siblings as well. She once dated tennis player Luke Bambridge and later dated hockey player Jordan Caron. The legendary Roger Federer was her idol growing up.
3. MARIA SHARAPOVA
Tennis star who became the first Russian to win a career Grand Slam when she defeated Sara Errani at the 2012 French Open. She won a silver medal at the 2012 Olympics, falling to Serena Williams in the final. She traveled to the United States to continue her training with just her dad, as visa restrictions made it so her mother couldn’t come over until two years later. She’s the daughter of Uri and Yelena Sharapova.
4. KAROLINA PLISKOVA
Czech tennis player with numerous victories on both the WTA and ITF circuits who had achieved a world ranking of #7 in August of 2015. While playing as a junior, she won the girls’ singles event at the 2010 Australian Open. Her first senior Grand Slam tournament was at the 2012 French Open. She and her twin sister Kristýna were the first twin sisters to ever win a double title in WTA history, completing the task in 2013. Their parents are Radek Plíšek and Martina Plíšková.
5. ELENA VESNINA
Russian tennis player who won Grand Slam doubles tournaments with partner Ekaterina Makarova at the 2013 French Open and the 2014 US Open. She is also the winner of WTA singles tournaments like the Moorilla Hobart International and AEGON International. She was born in the city of Lviv and competed in her first $10,000 tournament in Giza, Egypt in October 2002, when she was 16 years old. She and Ekaterina Makarova won the WTA Award for Fan Favorite Doubles Team of the Year in 2013. Her parents are Sergej Vesnin and Irina Vesnina. She has a brother named Dmitry.
